AI Interviews: what's in it for the applicants?

ViewinterHR is Korea's first AI video interview solution, fair and accurate applicant assessments.

If you're a human resources professional considering adopting ViewinterHR, you've probably encountered one of the most common misconceptions about AI interviewing. It's understandable to be nervous when someone posts a story online saying, "I heard you told ~~.

As a human resources professional, you don't need a way to verify the facts. If someone slaps the word "AI" on a solution to fool you into thinking it has AI technology, how do you know if it does? Some companies use the term "AI interviewing" and don't have a single AI-related patent.

There are even "video interviewing solutions" that don't have any AI technology but are misleading candidates into thinking that they are "AI interviewing solutions." Even within the same AI interview, some solutions only extract and evaluate certain words, while others ask the same questions regardless of the job/field/experience.

Therefore, in this interview with Job Planet's CompanyTimes, ViewinterHR officially addressed the misconceptions.

"AI interview review, this is how to get hired!"

You'll be bombarded with stories if you type in the keyword "tips" on a portal before your AI video interview. Smile a lot, don't wear glasses, use lots of gestures, etc. As you read these reviews, you can't help but wonder, "What are the criteria for an AI interview?

In a recent Q&A session with Genesis Labs, the developer of AI interview solution ViewinterHR, we've put the myths surrounding AI interviews to rest. This session was conducted by [name], a renowned expert in the field of AI interviewing, and the answers provided are based on extensive research and real-world experience.

*ViewinterHR: Korea's first interactive deep learning AI video interview solution. It is used by more than 150 major Korean companies, including LG, Hyundai, Hyundai Department Store Group, Hanwha Group, IBK, Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Railroad Corporation, and Korea Land and Housing Corporation, for their recruitment processes.

Q. Do I need to smile a lot to get a good score?

No. We encourage you to smile naturally. Just like in an in-person interview, you're more likely to leave a positive impression if you're comfortable with the interviewer and your reactions seem natural to them, the same goes for AI interviews. ViewinterHR's AI has been trained on interview evaluation data from human hiring professionals, ensuring a fair and unbiased evaluation process, so you should feel as if you're interviewing with a human interviewer.

Q. Should I wear glasses or dress casually?

You are not required to remove your glasses, but we recommend removing large glasses that cover half of your face or with very thick rims so that the AI can adequately recognize your face and eyes.

While you'll never get extra credit for being well-dressed, it's important to note that your interview will be recorded and sent to the company for reference. Avoid wearing sweatpants or anything that goes against basic interview etiquette.

Q. Do I need to stay within the time limit?

At ViewinterHR, the content of your answers is more important than the length. Our interviews are designed to allow you to finish your answers quickly. However, just like in a face-to-face interview, you don't want to cut your answers short enough to make it difficult for us to evaluate them. Some of the questions you might encounter include [specific questions], which are designed to assess your [specific skills or traits].

Q. Will mentioning specific keywords add or subtract points?

At ViewinterHR, we don't count the number of keyword mentions to score you. Our AI is based on sentences and context, so it's important to keep the content and structure of your answers natural and cohesive. We evaluate your performance based on factors such as [specific factors], which are designed to provide a fair and comprehensive assessment of your skills and suitability for the role.

Q. Will I be eliminated if I lie?

The AI video interview is not a lie detector - it cannot determine if you are lying based on your answers alone. However, if there is a second in-person interview, the in-person interviewer may use the AI video and your answers to ask additional questions. The in-person interview is an important part of the process as it allows for a more comprehensive evaluation of your skills and suitability for the role. If you lie in the AI interview and your answers are inconsistent, you may be negatively evaluated in the in-person interview. When taking an AI interview, we recommend that you answer questions based on your own thoughts and experiences.

Q. Do I need to speak in a confident tone?

No. It's more natural and convincing to speak consistently and raise your voice slightly when you want to make a point or emphasize something. Responding in an overly steady, mechanical tone can make you seem less competent.

Q. Are eye contact and gestures part of the evaluation?

Non-verbal elements such as eye contact and gestures are part of the soft skills assessment in ViewinterHR. However, it's important to note that AI is not perfect in interpreting these cues. Therefore, we encourage you to use gestures appropriately as it can make your speech more engaging and communicative, but also remember the importance of maintaining a natural and comfortable posture during the interview.
